Petra’s Mission Statement
1. My Background
I am a sex-positive artist. As an independent erotic film-maker I finance, produce and direct my erotic films. In close co-operation with my team of performers and crew I visualize female fantasies. My films are based on erotic fantasies that customers of my erotic photo shoots, girlfriends and interested women from all over the world have shared with me. And of course, some of the fantasies I show in my films are my own.
The focus of my erotic films is female pleasure. I would like to empower the women who appear and the women who view my films to experience their own personal pleasures away from the stereotypes of female sexuality in mainstream porn. Most porn is still done by men for men and therefore express male desires. I feel the need to create an alternative to the flood of images that distort female sexuality and reduce women to their genitals.
I believe in a return to sensuality and portray sex that is enriched by intimacy, creativity and humour. I love to show women being pleasured and receiving oral sex as we simply do not see enough of this. Many women still feel guilty to ask their partner to pleasure them. I would like to encourage women to enjoy being pleasured without feeling guilty, rather than to just give pleasure to their lovers all the time.
I also like to show men as objects of female sexual desires as there is a lack of male pin-up culture that is aimed at women rather than gay men. I choose to embrace taboo subjects such as male bisexuality and the prostate as an erogenous zone for (heterosexual) men.
I call my films art-core, rather than hard-core. Even though I do feature erections, penetration and show “real sex”, I do not feel I have much in common with 90% of films in the genre of hard-core porn and am not part of the “porn industry”.
3. Production values
All performers only experience during a shoot what gives them pleasure. The performers choose who they have sex with and what kind of sex they will be having. It is essential to me that the performers “feel it” rather than “fake it” because I want to capture genuine sexual chemistry on film. There are no faked orgasms in my movies. I take my time when shooting: there is no list of positions to tick off, so the sensuality, lust and ecstasy can develop organically. I do not compromise the enjoyment of my performers in order to get the best camera angle and those typical porn close-up shots of genitals. I do believe in and promote safe sex. All of my performers have an up-to-date test for STDs, and if they are not a committed couple they will have penetrative sex only with a condom.
4. Feminism and porn
I agree with the opinion of many feminists that a lot of mainstream porn is degrading to women and glorifies violence. This is the reason why I was active in the anti-porn movement in the 80’s. But now it is not enough for me to just be against something but I want to create alternatives. I do not want to leave the production of sexual images completely in male hands. I do not want to remain silent but am a woman with a voice who expresses her and other women’s desires loud and clear. The time is right for women to reclaim the genre of erotic films and create images that turn us on.
I choose to work with female performers that the female viewer can identify with. My films are a “silicone-free zone” and I like to show a variety of body types rather than just one “ideal” woman. The men appearing in my films are not cast by the size of their penis but by their ability to give their partners sexual pleasure.
I choose not to portray any sexual actions that many women experience as degrading such as forced fellatio, extreme anal sex and cum shots into the woman’s face.
